Hello, students and parents of the Vermillion School District!
My name is Mr. Zachary Van Meter, and I will be serving you all as the new high school/8th grade band director for this upcoming school year! I cannot begin to express how very excited I am to begin working with you all, and I know that we will have a fantastic year (and years to come)! I want to say thank you to everyone who I have already met and who have made me feel so welcome already, and a special thanks to Mr. Olson for welcoming me in as he transitions away from the program.
Summer is well underway, and that can only mean one thing: Marching band is just around the corner. I have been exploring some possible themes for our show, and will be announcing that very soon. In the meantime, I would love for all of you to begin looking at calendars and setting aside our band camp dates/times in August. There are many factors that go into scheduling these activities, so please don't hesitate to reach out with questions or concerns on the scheduling. Remember, band camp is VITAL and MANDATORY for all students in marching band, so if a student has to miss any amount of time during these dates it will be difficult to make up that time. Please schedule any vacations/avoidable activities around these dates, when and wherever possible.
Wednesday, August 5th: Percussion/Guard Camp & Band Camp Day 1
- 9am to 11am: Guard and percussion "Mini Camp"
- 1pm to 3pm: Full band, Welcome and introductions/ensemble expectations, full group music rehearsal
Thursday, August 6th: Band Camp Day 2
- 9am to 10:30am: Marching and maneuvering fundamentals
- 10:30am to 12pm: Introduction to drill reading, setting drill
- 12pm to 1pm: Lunch
- 1pm to 2pm: Sectional music rehearsal
- 2pm to 3pm: Full ensemble rehearsal/Full coordination
Friday, August 7th: Band Camp Day 3
- 9am to 10am: Marching and maneuvering fundamentals
- 10am to 12pm: Drill setting (Opener)
- 12pm to 1pm: Lunch
- 1pm to 2pm: Sectional music rehearsal
- 2pm to 3pm: Full ensemble rehearsal/Full coordination
Saturday, August 8th: Band Camp Day 4/Parent and Student introduction meeting
- 9am to 10am: Marching and maneuvering fundamentals
- 10am to 12pm: Drill setting (Opener)
- 12pm to 1pm: Lunch
- 1pm to 2pm: Full ensemble rehearsal
- 2pm to 3pm: Full coordination
- 3pm: Parent and Student introduction meeting
Sunday, August 9th: No Band Camp
Monday, August 10th: Band Camp Day 5/Band Party and Cookout (Last Day of Band Camp)
- 9am to 9:30am: Marching and maneuvering fundamentals
- 10am to 12pm: Ensemble Rehearsal and Full Coordination (Opener on the field)
- 12pm: Set up for cookout/party
- 12:30pm to 2:30pm: Band Party and Cookout
